Having learnt to dive and witnessed marine creatures for the first time, you will no doubt have a craving for more diving experiences. The Adventure Diver course allows you to continue your diving adventure, to explore special diving interests and to gain dive experience in new areas of diving. This course offers flexibility and will give you the opportunity to dive at more challenging sites, both in the UK and abroad, under the guidance of a PADI instructor.
The Adventure Diver course continues your open water training with minimal classroom and pool training. It will give you an introduction to three specialty areas in diving, under the supervision of your PADI dive instructor. You may customise your own training path and learn various underwater tasks that will broaden your awareness of the dive environment and improve your capabilities as a diver.
The Adventure Dives you complete may be credited towards the Advanced Course in the future. To upgrade to the Advanced Course you need to complete just two aditional specialty dives, including the core deep and navigation adventure dives if these have not been dives completed during the Adventure Diver course
Each of the dives may also count as credit to the relevant specialty course, thus making the specialties quicker and cheaper to complete if you wish to continue your education in a specific area of diving. Five specialties and the Rescue Diver certification qualifies you for the Master Scuba Diver rating, the highest non-professional rating in scuba diving.
Who Can Take the Adventure Diver Course?
PADI Open Water divers or other entry-level divers from other agencies may enrol on the Adventure Diver course. If you have non PADI certification or have not dived for some time, a scuba review will be required. Divers aged between 10 and 15 will gain the Junior Adventure Diver rating.
The Adventure Diver Course can be completed on one day either at Stoney Cove or at the coast. Prior to the course, students will receive the “Adventures in Diving” manual that contains the background information to the specialty diving areas of the course. (Depending on the choice of elective dives, certain extra kit may need to be purchased prior to the course, eg torches for a night dive.)
Three dives may be chosen from the list below. It will depend on where the course is being undertaken as to whether all dives will be on offer.
Dry Suit Dive
Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive
Search and Recovery Dive
Underwater Naturalist Dive
Underwater Photography Dive
The Adventure Diver course costs £155 and a deposit of £100 is required to register for the course.
On completion of the course, there is an additional certification fee due to PADI of £25.
