OUR TRIP TO BONAIRE: 2nd - 9th March 2018
Thankfully the snow stayed away until we had taken off from Heathrow. In reality, none of us had needed to set off quite so early for the airport, especially Hannah and Neil !!! The flight was on time for the first time that week and after a short transfer in Amsterdam, we were on our way to Bonaire! On arrival, the warm sun was a welcome change to the weather back home and we were more than happy to be Caribbean!
Our Group: Jenny Barnes, Donny Ming, Hannah Bloomfield, Neil Williams, Rebecca & Ryan Manning, Jane & Leon Comar, Tim and Judith Swindell, Helen & Dave Cheshire, Barry & Hazel Stuart and Chantal & Helen Geall.
We spent 6 days at Buddy's, staying in large apartments either with balconies over looking the resort and sea or the swimming pool. It was lovely to be surrounded by palm trees with the sea in close proximity and with rather tame iguanas roaming the resort!
The Dive Centre was extremely well organised and the numerous staff looked after all of us very well. During the week, we did both boat and shore dives. The boat dives were certainly an easier option for getting in and out of the water (Chantal can vouch for that) but having the vans at our disposal was a unique experience and allowed us to choose when and where we wanted to dive.
Thanks to Donny and Barry, our designated drivers, who found our chosen dive sites along the narrow lanes. Just look for a yellow stone with the site name on, check the conditions/entry points and jump on in!!
Thanks also to our snorkellers Judith and Helen for keeping watch of the vehicles when they were not being mermaids of the sea!
We dived a great wreck called the Kilmer Hooker in the south of the island so Jenny was happy to get her fix for a bit of metal ! Some lucky divers also experienced the night dive with the Ostracods and experienced a light show like no other.
Whilst the night dives continued all week with Donny, the rest of us drank gin!
Donny gained the prize for the most dives, 25 in six days, including morning and evening night dives. Special mention to Rebecca and Ryan as well for diving loads and for improving their skills dramatically during the week. Last but not least, a pat on the back for Dave for not being "dangerous", being a great buddy and even finding his way back to the dive centre whilst guiding underwater!!!
Thanks to everyone who joined Indepth on this trip to Bonaire and for making the week a happy and memorable one . We look forward to diving with you all again very soon.
Another way to use a rinse tank ...... got to keep the beer cool somehow!!
