Summary of our Trip
Saturday / Sunday
We all met at the airport for a flight to Male where we were met by the the crew from the yacht.
Our adventure began.... we took the yacht to the beautiful site of Velassuru where we did the first 3 Open Water qualifying dives with the referral students, who had learnt to dive in the Spring Term.
The qualified divers were guided by the lovely staff of the yacht M/Y blue Voyager for some fun dives. These lucky divers spotted a white tip reef shark, a turtle and some rays.
We completed the last Open Water qualifying dive at Miyaru Faru. Some of us did 3 dives this day and coped very well with the sea conditions.
Congratulations to the majority of students who completed their certifications today and were now PADI Open Water Divers!! The hundreds of dolphins who followed our boat at the end of the day were clearly saying hello and congratulations too. This was one of the highlights of the trip!
During our dives on this day some of the divers spotted mantas and turtles but the main dive of the day was a dusk at the famous Alimatha site. Here we sat on the sandy bottom and were surrounded by at least 15 nurse sharks and giant rays. They were so firendly and very curious about us all.
We did 3 more dives today including a NIGHT dive. The highlight of the day, however, was the rare opportunity of snorkelling with a beautiful whale shark.
Today was all about the manta rays. Using our reef hooks, we surrounded the manta cleaning station and watched 5 playful mantas circling around us.
The day ended with a delicious BBQ on the back deck.
This was our last day of diving and we were lucky to be able to dive once again with mantas at the renowned Lankan Manta Point. What a lovely way to end a fantastic week of diving in the Maldives.
We had a fantastic dive adventure with all of you this year. We hope to see you all again in 2018 on our next dive trip.
Enjoy some of the photos taken .... happy memories of a great holiday!!
